The 25th edition of the Maroc Challenge, held from March 27 to April 4, featured a route with a strong presence of sand and dunes and consisted of six exciting, tough and intense stages, fully meeting expectations.
The level of difficulty increased, as participants had to face a demanding route shaped by multiple changes due to the torrential rains that hit Morocco in the days leading up to the event.
With 172 teams from fifteen countries, the event continues to grow internationally and, after 25 editions, has established itself as a benchmark among amateur motorsport competitions in Morocco.
The adventure was thrilling, spectacular and relentless, combining a wide variety of terrains with constantly changing sand sections, requiring maximum attention, especially in dune areas. A total of 108 of the 172 vehicles that started this Spring 2026 managed to complete the event, which proved to be as tough and demanding as it was technical and enjoyable.
SIX STAGES AND A SEA OF DUNES
Throughout the six stages, with Erfoud as the northernmost point and Foum Zguid as the southernmost, competitors crossed vast plains, fesh-fesh sections, swollen and muddy river crossings, sandy tracks and faster, more technical sections, always requiring great caution due to accumulated mud in certain areas.
As expected, the dunes played a key role and made the difference. In addition to crossing the Erg Chebbi twice in its entirety —from north to south and from south to north—, the Ouzina dunes and the Erg Chegaga were also featured, along with new, previously unexplored sandy areas introduced in this edition.
Rui Cabaço, briefingman of the Maroc Challenge, commented:
“It has been an exciting Maroc, difficult on every level, especially because the bad weather made everything more complex. From an organisational perspective, we had to make last-minute changes to the route, which increased the pressure on race coordination. For participants, many areas that are usually softer and sandy became much harder and more punishing due to the rain. Sand river crossings, for example, were flooded and had to be crossed over stones. These added difficulties made this edition even more demanding. I would like to thank the participants for their understanding and cooperation, and congratulate those who managed to finish this Spring 2026, as it has been an extremely tough edition.”
